16th March 2012: HIMI Toothfish receives MSC certification

On a day that the Marine Stewardship Council is celebrating Sustainable Seafood Day, COLTO is pleased to announce that Australia’s Heard Island & McDonald Islands (HIMI) Patagonian Toothfish fishery has been recognised as a sustainable and well managed fishery by the Marine Stewardship Council.  Read the MSC HIMI toothfish press release.

The HIMI fishery is now the third toothfish fishery to receive MSC certification, following fisheries at South Georgia and the Ross Sea.

For more information on the HIMI Toothfish MSC certification, as well as the South Georgia and Ross Sea certified fisheries, please see the MSC website.

Austral Fisheries and Australian Longline are the two major quota holders in the HIMI fishery, and together are also undertaking MSC assessment for the Macquarie Island Patagonian Toothfish Fishery.
