CCAMLR toothfish tag return lottery results

COLTO is pleased to be able to promote collaboration between the fishing industry and science by again sponsoring the 2017/18 CCAMLR toothfish tag return lottery.

This year’s winners were selected at random by the CCAMLR Secretariat from tag returns in CCAMLR’s Exploratory fisheries, with the results as follows:

1st place went to the Korean flagged vessel, Kostar, returning a tag from an Antarctic toothfish tagged in subarea 88.1 on the 25th December 2017, which had been at liberty for 1814 days. The fish was originally tagged on the 6th January 2013, in the same subarea, only 30km away.

2nd place went to the Spanish flagged vessel, Tronio, returning a tag from an Antarctic toothfish tagged in Subarea 58.4.1 on the 29th January 2018, which had been at liberty for 372 days. This fish was originally tagged on 22nd January 2017, in the same subarea, 368km away.

3rd place went to the New Zealand flagged vessel, San Aspiring, returning a tag from an Antarctic toothfish tagged in Subarea 88.1 on the 2nd January 2018, which had been at liberty for 747 days. This fish was originally tagged on 17th December 2015, in the same subarea, only 17km away.
